| Comments | While at a peewee foot ball game we watched the Monarch flying south west. There were not a lot of them but they were regular. Yesterday (10/5/03) between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., I was about 80 miles SW
of Oklahoma City, OK near a small impoundment called Lake Ellsworth (near
the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge). Temps were near 70 cooling to mid
to low 60's with a light and variable breeze. At any given time I would
estimate I had between 50 and 100 monarch in view. Most were headed in a
direct south path. Many would drop down once they flew over the lake and
nectar in the asters and sunflowers that are at peak.
