| Comments | Since Saturday we have been observing monarchs approaching the peninsula of the Lavaca Bay Causeway from the northeast, coastal migration route thru Texas. So far, it has been easy to find about one a minute, most are nectaring on goldenrod. Today was the first time to see several with rapid wingbeats disappearing over the quiet waters of the bay off to the southwest. Did find three, just before sundown, on the lee side of bushes and a small tree, looked like they were ready to spend the night there. We have been having storms move eastward across southcentral Texas from Mexico about every twenty-four hours. We are being to told to prepare for a "rain event" similar to October 1998, the remnants of the Pacific hurricane, Tenna, will be approaching on Saturday and there could be a foot of rain where it and the stalled front collide. There will be some soggy south Texas monarchs! |
