| Comments | We have just tagged and released 38 monarchs from the Cache Valley in
northern Utah. Numbers of Monarchs have been greatly reduced by the
destruction of milkweed and the prominent population of the tachinid
flies. Our town is Hyrum, south of Logan, and is at about 4600'
elevation. The mahogany, maple and aspen have already turned
gorgeous shades of red, orange, gold, yellow and purple.
Here is a question for the group:
* The Eastern population of Monarch migrate to Mexico.
* The West coast Monarchs travel to Southern California.
* Where do the Intermountain Monarchs (Utah, Idaho, Wyoming) overwinter?
We found out by initiating the Intermountain tagging project. |
