EventMonarch Migration Sighting
Date of Sighting09/18/02
CommentsFinally, the science teacher has seen one monarch butterfly. The butterfly population seems decreased this year. Although the milkweed was abundant in the fields, it was difficult to find caterpillars to bring into the classroom. After releasing our 3 butterflies last week (9/ll and 9/12), my class has been watching after school for monarch butterflies. They have had some success viewing monarch butterflies at their homes and soccer fields. I saw one monarch butterfly tonight at 6 pm while walking on the Capital City Bike path. It was sipping nectar from a lovely red flower.
