EventMonarch Migration Sighting
Date of Sighting09/16/02
CommentsI'm very excited to report what looks like a small migration coming through downtown Kansas City, the Crown Center area, today (9/16). I noticed several individuals floating by our office windows this morning. Went outside and was able to observe for 20 minutes. Counted 24 floating overhead in ones and twos in that time period. 11:45 a.m. to 12:05 pm.

A great day for flying - little breeze, sunny, temperature around 70 F. They seem to be flying at tree level heights, over 50 feet and above. Easy flying, just floating along with very little effort.

I've asked my brother who lives in Warsaw MO by Truman Lake in the Ozarks to keep watch for them. Last year on the weekend of Sept 22nd a HUGE migration had gone thru. So far, he says he has not seen any.
