| Comments | This week my class has been at Mono Cliffs Outdoor Education Centre. We have seen many, many, many monarch butterfies. Beside Highland Hall there is a playing field at the bottom of a 3 metre high hill. On the north edge of the field there is the "forbidden forest". The monarch butterflies come out of the forest and fly south, usually into a pretty strong wind and go through a gap in the windbreak trees at the south of the playing fied, to a meadow with lots of milk weed and golden rod. We have seen butterflies at the south end of the meadow, almost a kilometer away, still flying south. Outside of Highland Hall we see monarchs going by ever 2 or 3 minutes. Some of them fly up the hill and go around the corner to fly away to the south east. |
