It was really weird this year, as the critters came in on Sunday and Monday, 9/8 +9/9, and were gone on 9/10. The wind was from the north and they were gone. I would say we had about 50-60 - not anything like last year.(See below.)

We have lived in our house for 19 years. Every year we have a large number of monarchs that seem to gather in our yard and then disappear to on their journey. Over the years we have seen various numbers, ranging from a 100-200 up to 400-500. This year, we are totally amazed at the numbers. This evening there are at least 800 monarchs - and that is not an exaggeration. There are probably more. Our neighbors have branches full, we have several trees full - it is amazing. I know that they will be gone tomorrow as there is a front coming through and the wind will switch to the north. We live in western Wisconsin, Hammond, which is 16 miles from the MN/WS border east of the Twin Cities.
