| Event | Monarch PEAK Migration |

Tuesday, September 10 a cold front passed through and on the afternoon Route I counted 203 monarchs. I estimated there were probably 600 in the Picnic area. We put Monarch Watch tags on over 350 monarchs on Tuesday evening. Another 100 monarchs were tagged on Wednesday morning, September 11. We were so busy tagging, we could not really watch the butterfly behavior and see if any were heading out over the lake or bay.
This is our peak this year; usually we have two, one early August and the other late August/early September. Maybe I should say so far! It has been a very unusual migration monitoring season this year. |
