| Event | Monarch PEAK Migration |
| Date of Sighting | 10/03/01 |
| Comments | I live in Graham,Texas and for over 10 years
the Monarch butterflies have been coming to our back
yard. They arrived in large numbers Wednesday and Thursday
of this week--hundreds, maybe thousands on our pecan and oak
trees and our Crepe Myrtles. I don't know why we are so
blessed with them, but I wanted to let someone know they
are definitely on their way south in the largest numbers we
have had in several years. The milk weed was particularly
prevelant this year. There are a few other places in town
where they stay as well, but I have been told we have the
largest numbers. We are due a cold front tomorrow, and they
will probably leave with it--that is what usually happens.
My husband and I look forward to their short stay with us
each year and wanted to share our good fortune with someone.
Thank you for all you do for the natural habitat of this
state!
