| Comments | Tuesday, when I arrived at school there were Monarchs everywhere. There were about 30 resting on the grass outside my window and more in the air. They fluttered around a tree that is flowering across the street. As I walked up the breeze way, no matter in which direction I turned my head, there were 3 to 5 monarchs fluttering around. Some had very worn wings with little color
left but others were rich in color with little sign of wear.
It is not unusual to see one or two fluttering by at a time but never this many. Our school is located in Kenner, a suburb of New Orleans. We are about one mile south of Lake Ponchartrain and three miles east of another lake and swamps.
A man at church told me Sunday that when he crossed Lake Ponchartrain on Saturday, the monarchs were thick. Some have been nectaring but others are laying eggs on our exhausted milkweed. I have four chrysalis' about to emerge to add to the flight. This has been truly the thickest journey south that I
