| Comments | Thousands of monarchs on the Toronto waterfront Based on my success yesterday at Presqu'ile Provincial Park, 150 km east of Toronto, after work today I drove down to the Toronto waterfront and Tommy Thompson Park (Leslie Street Spit). Again good numbers of monarchs and I tagged over 200 from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm. As the sun set and I thought the activity was finished for the night, I came across a number of low roosts containing 50+ monarchs each. Other roosts much higher contained more and I suspect down in the park there were probably some large roosts ( primarily on willow, poplar, Manitoba maple and even a small elm). In short, many many more monarchs than I could ever hope to tag. Probably thousands. Many seeking shelter from very strong south-westerly winds. September 18 No news of monarchs moving through Point Pelee National Park. |
